OfficeMax now will offer 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper for customers making self-serve copies at in-store print and document services, the office supply chain announced.
Customers can upgrade from 30 percent to 100 percent post-consumer paper for free for a limited time. The store’s copy machines have "Think in Green" stickers to encourage customers to take advantage of the offer.
"We are bringing OfficeMax customers products and services that emphasize recycling, energy efficiency and recycled content to help them do their best work while being environmentally conscientious at the same time," said Ryan Vero, OfficeMax’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer.
The average American uses nearly 700 pounds of paper each year—double the consumption since 1960, according to the Environmental Defense Fund. While some businesses are cutting paper usage, certain business situations require paper.
OfficeMax also helps customers reduce paper consumption with help from the EDF's Paper Calculator. The Paper Calculator allows businesses to quantify the environmental benefits of switching to recycled paper or from moving to a higher recycled content.
Last month, OfficeMax teamed up with TerraCycle to deliver a new line of green office products to OfficeMax customers. Seven of the products, including innovative binders, pencil cases, trashcans and cleaners are in stores. The products and packaging are made entirely from waste, reducing the amount of garbage going to landfills. OfficeMax carries more than 1,700 products with recycled content.
